The weather scared us a little as we drove to Dallas TX to photograph this beautiful outdoor wedding at The Filter Building by White Rock Lake! Other than winds reaching 26 mph, the rain held off for Nicola and Rick’s ceremony, that we hoped would be outside! Their family & friends were incredibly laid back, which helped the day run smoothly! Because I was born and raised in Dallas, I have always enjoyed photographing weddings there because that means I get to go home for the weekend.
I was lucky enough to have my close friend and fellow photographer Daniel Davis as my second shooter for this wedding. I’ve served as his second photographer for several weddings in the past, but this marked the first wedding that I took the lead. I think he would agree with me when I say that we seem to make each other better when we work together! Since moving into a shared photo studio in March, we have lots of ideas that involve the possibility of us joining forces for future weddings! Nothing is set in stone, so I will leave it at that. But you can expect to see his name on this blog more frequently in the future! If you haven’t visited his blog, I’d suggest you do it soon! (But only if you have a few hours to spare). You can view the famous photography blog of Daniel Davis by clicking here: Austin Documentary Photographer. I have included several of his images from this wedding, because they were too good to leave out! If the photo does not have a watermark, that means that it was taken by Daniel.
If you were at the wedding and you would like to order prints, I have set up a wedding gallery at my online store. You can get there by clicking the link in the nav bar, or here: http://store.geodun.com/rickandnicola— and the password is Nicola’s maden name. I’ve loaded the images you see here, and I will have the remainder up by the end of next week!
Below are my favorite photos from Nicola and Rick Quillen’s April 15, 2011 wedding:
One thing I love about being a wedding photographer is that you are forced to think quickly on your feet, especially during unpredictable situations. As I was setting up to take these wedding ring photos, the DJ suddenly cut the lights. Luckily, Daniel grabbed the strobe and we set it up in the dark. I had to ask a 3 year old boy to hold my iPhone next to the wedding bands so I could focus in the dark, using the phone as my light source!
